Master of Science
in Supply Chain Management
The business world has faced dramatic changes over the past five
to 10 years. Customers are demanding higher-quality products and
quicker delivery; the global marketplace is rapidly expanding; information
technology and electronic commerce are changing the way businesses
operate. In response, many firms have abandoned traditional channels
of distribution and are rebuilding around the logistics, or supply
chain management (SCM), model: a process-oriented, integrated approach
to procuring, producing, and delivering products and services to
customers.
To implement and maintain this approach, companies need managers
with a thorough understanding of supply chain management. The scarcity
of qualified people means that a master's degree in supply chain
management will put you in great demand in the marketplace.
Elmhurst College offers the Chicago area's only graduate program
in SCM. This new program builds on our extensive experience as the
only Chicago-area provider of an undergraduate program in logistics
and transportation management, and draws strength from our location
in one of the major transportation and logistics hubs in the world.
In this program, you'll gain a sound foundation in the technical
knowledge necessary in the field of SCM. But you'll also develop
the skills that are critical for today's business professional, like
communication, team building, working in a diverse business environment,
information technology, analytical thinking, negotiation, ethics,
and business decision-making. All course work maintains a balance
between current theory and practical business application. And because
you'll go through the program as a member of a cohort, you'll study
many more individual subject areas in a much shorter time frame than
with traditional program delivery methods, without sacrificing quality.
The SCM program is designed for professionals with at least five
years of work experience in any area of the supply chain process,
including manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, retailers, information
technology firms, transportation companies, and third-party logistics
firms. Generally, the program can be completed in 21 months (six
semesters), meeting two nights per week.
