Mentoring Program
Mentors are influential people who have the power--through who they
are and what they know--to help Elmhurst students reach their career
goals. In the CBE Mentoring Program, each mentor is a business executive
who is friend, role model, and career and business guide for a group
of students. Recent mentors have included executives from Fortune
500 companies as well as entrepreneurs from smaller companies. You
can learn more about this academic year mentors in the Mentor
Profile page.
Each group of students meets with its mentor at least six times
during the academic year to consider a wide range of business-related
topics and activities. Discussions might cover workplace politics,
business ethics, resume preparation, or what to expect in a first
job. Activities might include a tour of the mentor's workplace, introduction
to and meetings with others at the mentor's workplace, or meetings--arranged
by the mentor--with individuals in a student's field of interest.
Students find these professional contacts very valuable when the
time comes to begin a formal job search.
To be eligible to participate in the program, students must have
a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 and agree to meet with their mentor for five
of the six meetings. Individual mentoring groups decide on the time,
place, and topic of their meeting groups. Two of the required meetings
are an opening breakfast in September and a closing luncheon in April
hosted by the Center for Business and Economics.
Students who are active participants in this program receive 0.25
pass/no pass course credit.
