Areas of Specialization

In order to build on the strengths of existing resources and programs at Elmhurst College, the electives and areas of specialization of the EC MBA have been developed in cooperation with other graduate programs at the College and new and existing courses in the CBE. This approach allows us to offer a number of potentially attractive choices to our students and to share the resources and expertise of other areas.

Our offerings include areas of specialization in:

 

Accounting

Students wishing to specialize in Accounting need prerequisites equivalent to BUS 361 Intermediate Accounting I and BUS 362 Intermediate Accounting II in addition to the Core Courses of the EC MBA.

  • MBA 560 (ACC 560) Accounting Theory
  • MBA 564 (ACC 564) Consolidations
  • MBA 565 (ACC 565) Info. Systems for Mgmt. Decisions
  • MBA 566 (ACC 566) Auditing

Note: Students may substitute MBA 564, MBA 565, or MBA 566 with another course after consultation with the MBA program director.

Accounting Information Systems

  • MBA 565 (ACC 565) Info. Systems for Mgmt. Decisions
  • MBA 566 (ACC 566) Auditing
  • 2 MIS courses approved by the MBA program director

Management Information Systems (MIS)

Students wishing to specialize in MIS need a prerequisite of a workshop in Visual BASIC which will be offered in the summer.

  • MBA 527 (BUS 551) Organizational Behavior & Project Management

The Management of People (i.e. Industrial/Organizational Psychology)

This specialization combines courses from the Masters Program in IO/Psych and the CBE. Students wishing to specialize in The Management of People need prerequisites of equivalent to PSY 210 General Psychology, PSY 433 Research Methods in Psychology, MBA 502 Analytical Tools for Management Decisions and the joint approval of the coordinator of the IO/Psych Masters Program and the EC MBA Program.

Students wishing to specialize in Finance will take the following four courses at the graduate level:

  • MBA 542 (BUS 442) Investment Theory and Portfolio Management
  • MBA 545 Financial Statements
  • MBA 508 Special Topics: Finance

Marketing Research

Students wishing to specialize in Marketing Research will take the following four courses at the graduate level:

  • MBA 583 (BUS 336) Marketing Research
  • MBA 575 (BUS 375 ) International Marketing
  • MBA 582 (BUS 335) Consumer Behavior
  • MBA 508 Special Topics: Marketing Research Practicum

Supply Chain Management (SCM)

Students wishing to specialize in SCM will take four of the following sets of courses at the graduate level:

  • Set 1: MBA 588 (SCM 512) Outsource Decisions: Selecting a Third-Party Logistics Firm & MBA 589 (SCM 513) Forecasting in the Supply Chain (Fall Term, meets once a week)
  • Set 2: MBA 590 (SCM 550) Transportation Management Strategies & MBA 591 (SCM 551) Marketing and Supply Chain (Fall Term, meets once a week)
  • Set 3a: MBA 592 (SCM 520) Quality Process Management & MBA 593 (SCM 521) Inbound Logistics Strategies (J-Term, meets twice a week)
  • Set 3b: MBA 594 (SCM 560) E-Commerce and the Supply Chain & MBA 595 (SCM 561) Customer Relations (J-Term, meets twice a week)
  • Set 4: MBA 596 (SCM 531) Manufacture Decisions & MBA 597 (SCM 530) Supplier Certification in the Supply Chain (Spring Term, meets once a week)
  • Set 5: MBA 598 (SCM 540) Inventory Management Strategies & MBA 599 (SCM 541) Warehouse Management Strategies (Summer Term, meets once a week)

Note: Students can choose either Set 3a or Set 3b (but not both)
